I'll be going to Germany for 3 and a half weeks mid May and it will be essential for me to have internet access while I'm there to stay on top of my business/emails.
Some of the places I'm staying I know will have WiFi, but some won't. I was hoping someone who is more traveled than me (I've literally never traveled) could provide some insight on the best option for having constant internet access while traveling internationally. Thanks guys. |

Make sure your phone is 'unlocked', and gsm capable (most are these days).
You should be able to buy a local pre-paid sim card in the airport. Data plans are A LOT cheaper in Europe, and the network coverage is superior simply due to the smaller area.

Maybe a stupid question but how do I know if my phone is unlocked and gsm capable?

If your phone has a SIM card inside it's a GSM phone. If so, then you can buy another sim card in germany. Cellphone services in europe are mostly pay as you go. calculate your monthly usage and buy a plan that will get you through. Or contact your company and see what kind of services they offer for international usage. If it's cheaper then add that to your plan temporarily.
Those who have T-Mobile as a carrier, can use they phone abroad as well, since T-mobile is present in many countries. Since you'll be going abroad, check also that your debit cards/credit cards are approved for transactions in germany, also see which ones don't charge transaction fees, if so. then it's better to use cash. Also make sure you have a converter for your laptop/cellphone chargers(that's a US problem, not sure what is used in Canada) 22-2018

I'm with Rogers and I have 5GB of data per month on my plan. My phone was given with the contract.
Would getting a new SIM card and then hotspotting my laptop even provide enough data to do more than a couple days worth of work? I know even watching 1 YouTube video can literally eat through half a GB of data. I'll be gone for almost a month, and need constant internet access, so I'm not sure if that is the best option? |

We're starting off in some place called Germerode in Meissner. But, supposedly we will be going all over Germany, including Berlin at some point. If any GLL's in Germany want to get some workouts in, or go clubbing, or just hangout let me know! |

That's the thing is I'm going to be staying with family and friends, and some of them are pretty old school and don't have internet/WiFi. So I won't have it on the road, nor will I have it at several of the places I'm staying. I feel like I'm going to be bumming WiFi off of coffee shops half the trip, which I don't want to have to do ideally. I guess I should call Rogers and see what they say, there must be a way to do this relatively easily. |

Do you guys have 'unlimited' data plans up there in Canada?
Another option is most carriers have an international plan, or day pass. Mine is $10 a day, and you basically keep your plan overseas.

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
