Ketosis is a state entered from a lack of carbohydrates present in the diet, and has nothing to do with protein being "too high"

The claim that too much protein can kick you out of ketosis is based on
gluconeogenesis
(conversion of non-carbs to glucose, including certain amino acids). However there does not appear to be any hard evidence this actually occurs (see
this
). After all, gluconeogenesis can convert fat to glucose as well. People following ketogenic diets for medical reasons (i.e. epilepsy) are often told to get around 80% of their calories from fat, but this has only been
studied
and shown to be better for some people that in that medical context as far as I know.
In my experience, obsessing over actually staying in ketosis (i.e. keeping net carbs below 20-30g/day) just made it too difficult to find stuff to eat and not go starving (I had to eat butter and coconut oil straight). I had a much better time, and better fat loss success, just eliminating starches (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans, etc.) and processed food. I didn't worry about the salads I was eating, and I got most of my calories from meat. Worked great . I think ketosis for fat loss is best suited for obese individuals who get no exercise. When I was trying it I couldn't handle going to the gym at all. |

I agree. Simply eliminating processed food and starch goes a long way.

The main attribute of the no carb diet IS NOT entering "ketosis" where you turn into a fat burning machine, but rather to simply keep insulin spikes to a minimum and to be using protein and fats as your only sources of macronutrients in order to feel satiated a lot easier, hence not derailing your diet and cheating because of some carbohydrate induced insulin spike leading you to overeat. That is my take on it. I could care less if I was doing no carb and I was getting kicked out of ketosis from too high of protein. I'd rather keep my muscle on my body with adequate protein intake than be in ketosis.

If it were me and I was to do a keto diet myself, I would get 1.5 grams protein per pound of body weight, and then the rest of my calories would come from fats to hit my daily calorie allotment per day.
80/20 fat? Hello muscle loss.

Don't pm me asking questions if you are not going to message me back with a thank you after a lengthy answer or if you are going to debate with my experiences. If you can't say please and thank you, ask your mother to teach you some manners.

@username hello yes i did talk to my doctor he said its amazing. there are ebooks for keto diet for type 1s .. so lastly dumb question but when someone said 80fat/20protein on keto diet does than mean 80% calories from fat because 1fat = 9 cal
1 protein=4cal .. if so then does the gll diet have that |

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
