Hello I am basically getting most of my carbs from veggies such as broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, green peas. I am also eating 0 carbs foods like cheese, eggs and lean meat & lots of water. I try to avoid much rices, breads and starchy carbs.
This is temporary but I will be following the gll diet almost 1:1. I also bought some bcaa 8:1:1 for morning cardio(25mins of insanity workout). What I want to know is would it be better to lose all the weight then build muscle? Some people say more muscle also burns more fat. My plan was to do cardio and weight training every other day. But still do morning cardio(on an empty stomach) on weight training days. Or should I do just cardio everyday with BCAA? I come to enjoy weight & resistance training and don't really want to stop but I will if it is the best thing. I even bought a shit load of canned tuna and sardines but maybe I am just over excited.. I want to look just like Chris at 8% body fat here: http://www.goodlookingloser.com/2012/10/07/ideal-body/ I have the motivation but maybe I am not going in the right direction right now. Hope Chris sees this but all answers are appreciated. ![]() |

From what I've read, you want to get to 10% body fat before trying to bulk up building muscle and switching to the carbs/protein diet. You don't stop doing weight/resistance training though. You keep doing it to give your body a reason to not burn muscle and I've also read resistance training is better for weight loss than cardio, but ideally do both. The BCAA protects your muscles while weight training. Ideally you want to keep your heart rate under 150 to also protect your muscles while working out on an empty stomach to make all calories burnt come directly from your fat.

Thank you... So your saying I should workout to maintain muscle and not build it until I am 10% body fat? Does this mean I should weight train without to much carbs or protein? I am not sure how to just maintain muscle without building.. |

Insanity workout will definitely burn your muscle. Shits intense lol What about light walking and light weights.

Would the BCAA not help? Well I was only gonna do the warm up 11mins and maybe half the workout. On full cardio days I wanted to do the T25 workout. Basically cardio for 25mins with out rest. Whatever works the best. That's all I want. If I can burn lots of fat in a short time I don't mind. |

100 pounds is a lot. I'm guessing you are very overweight if you want to drop 100 pounds correct? If you want to lose weight fast and effectively, here is what you need to do:
1) Follow a strict nutrition plan --> there are many ways you can go about this. E.g. the Keto diet involves a diet based on 55-60% fat, 30-35% protein and 5% carbs. VERY effective for losing fat and maintain muscle. However, hard to keep up in the long run due to minimal carbs. This is the best option IMO. Or you can stick with a well balanced diet and just make sure your at calorie deficit. 2) WEIGHT TRAINING! --> depending on your fitness level, you want to be doing compound exercises, 3 sets for 8- 12 reps. Stick with the basics and make it challenging. Make sure your fully recovered before each workout. 3) Live an active lifestyle and move around. Walk, do the dishes, walk up stairs. All of this adds to burning energy |

Thanks for the reply! I was thinking of following the gll diet here: http://www.gll-getalife.com/2012/10/fat-loss-diet-1/ I haven't eaten bread or rice in 2 days but feel ok lol.. Mostly green veggies, cheese, eggs, lean meat. Very low carb.. |

Yes. Workout to maintain muscle and lose fat. Weight train on an empty stomach except drinking BCAAs. Taking a fat burner like Lipodrene ( http://www.gll-getalife.com/2012/10/fat-loss-supplements/ ) will give you the energy you need. The way I maintain is doing 70% of my max 2 sets of 10 on each exercise rather than pushing myself to my limit. I imagine it would help, but still wouldn't be optimal. You want to stay away from having your heart rate over 150 because it starts eating away at either your muscle or the BCAA instead of your fat. Stay in the fat burning zone. Weight training is going to be better for losing weight than cardio as it'll also increase your metabolism. edit: also I would say having the diet right will account for 75-80% of your success for losing weight. Weight training will help protect your muscles & account for additional weight loss. Cardio is very minor. You can spend an hour doing cardio and burn like 300-500calories and it wont increase your metabolism. HIIT will increase your metabolism, but also burn muscle, so weight training is more optimal. |

I lost ~60 lbs with no excess skin leftover(check picture of my current chest in my thread).
First thing that you need to know is that this is going to take some time if you want to do it right. Where you are right now there is no point in removing any kind of carbs or whatever... Just eat less calories than you use and you will loss a shitload of weight pretty fast. When you are fat you have surprisingly little muscle beneath so there is no point really in trying to preserve anything hence forget BCAAs lol... They will just raise your insulin and stall your weight loss, focus on losing fat for now. Until I found IF I always struggled with hunger, if you are doing fasting properly I promise that you will pretty much never be hungry (research how much more efficiently body actually uses body fat as you are in fasted state) http://www.leangains.com/ - probably best website on the subject, check before/after pictures. Good luck |

I agree with this. If you do however have muscle to protect then use the BCAA. I got lazy and stopped going to the gym for like a month and after losing another 12lbs (I'm 126lbs now, started at 155lbs, so it's hard to lose weight atm) I went to the gym today and went from 200lbs on my leg press to 160lbs. My thighs are a lot smaller so I lost a lot of muscle there. I'm kinda pissed at myself. Also I can attest if you do go keito diet no carbs, you do gain like 3x the energy. I freakin love that diet and want to be on in 24/7 and will be sad when I have to go back to carbs to bulk. |

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
