Bit off topic but I'll answer quick. Heavy lifting trains your muscles to be slow and strong. An MMA fighter can train heavy during their off season, say between fights, to build up strength. Then in fight camp you want to drop the weights to train power, quickness and explosiveness. They need to train those newly built muscle fibers to be fast for throwing a punch or kick. That's all about training the neuro-musclar pathways with repetitions. Many sports use that pattern: off season = strength training. in season = skills training. |
