Hi.
So I've long thought I've had a heart condition but whenever I go to the doctor the tests always come back normal for me. I even wore a 24 hour monitoring device one time and the doctor told me my heart was fine. However, when I do cardio at the gym my heart pounds really hard. I was on the treadmill a few months ago and my heart rate was 150. I lowered the speed and it took a few minutes before the heart rate began to come down. Also, I strained myself working out the other day and when I got home I was still feeling exhausted and my heart was pounding. I almost went to the hospital except I've been to the hospital for this many times and tests always came back negative. I managed to get to sleep (even though I was scared to) and was fine the next morning. So yeah, I'm wondering if there's any danger to doing cardio or intense workouts with this pattern or if I need better heart tests or what. Thanks. Goals for 2017:

Need more info. What tests did you have done, what supplements and/or drugs do you take, what is your history of this (if any), does this run in the family? Your post is too general so I can't answer with the minimal info given.

Got you. I've had an ECG and Holter Monitoring tests done. ECG came back abnormal, but upon further testing the doctor's concluded it was normal for me. My grandpa recently had a heart issue but it was due to too much sodium in his diet. He's over 80 years old. No other family heart issues that I know of. I don't take drugs. Suppliments have been on and off. I take whey protein and a vegan protein/vitamins and minerals mix currently. This has been consistent for me when pushing myself in the gym. I remember my trainer in the gym a few years back made me do a running exercise where he held ropes behind me and I was supposed to pull him. Thought I would die it was so intense. I don't push myself that hard anymore and can do workouts to failure just fine, but going intense seems to be the problem. Goals for 2017:

Sounds like anxiety to me... Your doctors probably know more about this than we can over the forum, so I would listen to them.
If you're doing proper cardio your heart rate should be at least 150. When I was cutting I made it my goal to get my heart rate up to as high as it would go, and I hit around 170-180 usually. My resting heart rate at the time was about 50 so I was in excellent shape. Hell, even during my gym workouts I'm probably around 140 because I like to use short rest intervals in between sets and a lot of intensity like dropsets. Sometimes it takes me several hours before my heart calms down after a hardcore leg workout with short rest periods and a lot of volume. But then again I'm fucking crazy so you should probably not do what I do. |

Yeah I think you may be right. I was just coming back to edit: I've been to the emergency room MANY times for this as well. Thinking I was having or going to have a heart attack, but I'm always fine. If it's anxiety tho, what can I do to put myself at ease? Goals for 2017:

This actually sounds something simular to what i have problems with. been to emergancy room thinking i was going to have a heart attack or something. It happens when i try to sleep aswell i notice it. Then they say "Nothings wrong", I havent had any tests because they always say nothings wrong...
It started when i had a skin condition that would keep me up all night + cause stress etc, The condition has been fixed now but i deffiantly still think i have problems with my heart. |

What is usually your BP at and resting heart rate at? When this happens next time, try taking your pulse. I wanna see how much variance there is from resting heart rate to this condition you think you may have

This. Also, do you take any pre-workout supplements with stimulants in your supplement regimen? These will crank your HR up. |

Exposure therapy. If exercise makes you feel like this then do a lot of it and really push yourself too. You'll get in better shape too. Cold showers will also bring your heartrate down. Try standing in an ice cold shower for 5 minutes, it's good for your heart and will lower your heartrate by at least 20 BPM. And no, you won't die doing it. |

Ok, so my current heart rate is 78-84 (13-14 beats per 10 seconds) I'll check my blood pressure when I get to the gym.
@ Terminator: You're story is scary. ![]() I have had compression in the chest during one of these bouts before but I went to the hospital and they said everything was fine.:/ Goals for 2017:

Yeah, I removed the story because it's unnecessarily deep and dark for readers and not really on topic. Read my new reply above. Did they inspect you properly, take x-rays and a cardiogram? |

Well they took an ECG and yes, now that I remember (was years ago) I had an x-ray. I went in for the issue and the doc sent me to x-ray and ECG. Goals for 2017:

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
