I have a really serious mindset problem, and I have no idea what it is.
I have a goal: I want to get a remote job as a developer. I know that if I really focus myself, it will take me 6 months to 1 year to get this job. However, I'm not new to the game. I've been working in the IT space since 2012, that's 8 years, and 6-7 mostly as a developer. So what's the deal? To get the remote job I need to learn new things, new technologies. This is because I didn't study anything all of these years, if it were me I would use the same old deprecated tech (that's bad). (ok, so? what's the problem, you didn't tell us the problem!!) My problem is that when it comes to learning those new technologies, I'm SERIOUSLY full of excuses. examples: - I started doing some tutorials from Salesforce, they give you points when you complete them. But when I found that you are evaluated with a quiz to get those points... I said "what? Are you going to evaluate me? fuck off"... and decided not to execute the tutorials and learn the technology. - I look up other technologies I should learn based on the job requirements: node.js, python, etc... and the excuses are "oh, but I have to install those languages and I don't want to install more things to my pc!!!" "ooh iugh do I have to learn more wordpress???" "oh but I need a public github account and collaborate job as part of the experience and I never did that!!" and more... by the way, I don't hate programming. I find it kind of fun, I even did a full fledged game that took me 15 months (and made me $80usd lol). I thought... well... maybe if I learn something different? but it's the same thing... - copywriting or doing niche sites = but I'm not a writer, it's not my forte and it will take me 2 years to make any money. ... Well, I don't see the point in adding more examples: the main thing involved is that I have excuses for everything, I don't understand why. It was always like this. I didn't learn anything new in all of these years... ANYTHING (not on my own I mean). The only languages/tech I learnt were because I was already employed and I was forced to do it to do the job. If it were me I would never learn anything. Maybe music, but I don't want to starve and I need a better job RIGHT NOW. I already work as a developer but make like $3usd per hour. --- So, what the fuck is wrong with me? what the hell is this? can you give me advice on how to fix this? books to read? I don't even know what kind of problem this is or how to look it up. Thank you

Pick a problem you want to solve or something you want to create and then do it. I.e. I want to make a python program that classifies voices as either male or female. Then break it down into pieces and start googling. Likely to be way harder, more interesting and gives you a project to showcase to the people hiring you. Courses are boring
As far as habits go you have to start small. If you can’t even get yourself started be like... aight day 1 I download the programs and the packages I need. Day 2 I write 1 line of code.. day 3 etc.. I’m actually going to join you I think I’ve wanted to teach myself how to do computer vision and I have a new laptop so let’s do this must lift more

You’re thinking of too many things at once. You don’t even have to worry about github for a few weeks. And you can make a GitHub account and literally copy/paste code right into it.
Day 1. Download the .exe’s Day 2. Read a bit about what you want to do Day 3. Install a package Day 4. Write a simple function using said package Day 5. Find source data I’m making this up but you need to chunk things into minuscule bits and stop getting so far ahead of yourself. Do a tiny bit each day. If you had written a single line of code each day for the last year you could have a pretty nice package or program right now. Small steps must lift more

The problem is that you don't really want it.
If you seriously cared about accomplishing your goal, you'd get it done. The truth is that it's not very important to you, at least right now. www.goodlookingloser.com/laid/index/the-...-the-undersexed-male Thanks for everything you guys. It's time for me to move on to bigger things!
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

You make $3.00USD/hour working as a developer. Where do you live? Just learn a bit of the technologies necessary for the field you're trying to move to. I think you have a huge advantage over a first timer trying to get a job since you already work as a developer.
To be honest, do exactly what Rapitur is saying to do. Your problem is that you have unreasonable expectations with what you expect from yourself and how long it'll take to learn what you need to learn. Just start with doing 30 minutes of studying every day. Slowly, you'll be able to grind more hours just out of habit. |

I used to train fitness and exercise. I chose to not work with unmotivated clients. If you don't care, then I don't care either. My contracts were non-refundable. Don't sign up unless you are serious. If you don't want to go to the workout, I don't care because I'm still getting paid. Instead I'll have a nice hour long lunch with your money. I will coach and educate you, but I won't get you out of bed.
I had a lady who "wanted" to get into swimsuit shape for a upcoming vacation, but she didn't want to exercise that particular day. Our "workout" was to walk to a hotdog street vendor. I still got paid for the hour, and she bought me an exotic elk meat hotdog. I had a great afternoon! I consider motivation to be YOUR responsibility, not mine. If you want to get serious then do this. Write a check for $5000, dated for 3 months from now, and give it to your best friend. Tell him if you don't follow through with your commitment that he may cash the check and take your money. Then we will see who is actually serious about following through.

Hello, as I promised here I am with results.
I've been studying salesforce. I've studied a little bit everyday (except on weekends) This month I decided to ramp it up and double the effort. I think that there were 2 things stopping me from starting (they still exist though) 1) I don't believe I will be able to land a job. I just feel no one will hire me for this. 2) I didn't believe I was able to acquire new knowledge, I thought I was stupid. Now I now this is not true... maybe I'm slower than the rest. And... well... that's all. Take care.

I was working for a large company as a resource analyst (had access to all the day rate datas) and the top end salesforce architects were making $2500 a day. Lower-Mid Tier about 850-1200 a day. Salesforce is huge. I thought if I got into technical stuff I'd do that.
At the end of the day in tech nobody gives an f what degree you have. Sure some CS might help but if you can do what they need you to do and build what they need you to build you will get hired Go read salesforce dev job ads and then teach yourself everything in the job description. You will get a job must lift more

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
