I like Theanine. Not something for hardcore anxiety, but it helps me maintain an even keel during the day.
Theanine has a short half-life of only 3hrs, so it needs to be taken a few times/day. I take it with my pre-workout, to reduce the jitters from caffeine...and a few hrs before bed to help me wind down before sleep.
"I've tried up to 1.5g and I've never felt anything."
Did you take it all at once or in gradual doses ?
I had some LifeMode powder lying around. I was never sure if it worked. I think the most I tried was 200 - 300 mg.
It kind of, sort of worked in a very subtle way.
On a lark I took some for coffee jitters ( 200 mg ).
Then something STRESSFUL happened ( a dog almost got killed by a couple of other dogs who had some pit bull breeding in them and we barely saved that poor dogs life ).
I was seriously freaked out and stressed. I took another 200 mg. This was a hour or so after the first dose.
The second dose of 200 mg. really made a difference. I could feel the realization in me and finally felt like I got my money's worth.
I'm mentioning this because it could be that the body only responds so much to a single dose of theanine and the rest gets excreted. It might be that taking some more later on STACKS the dosage and builds on the first dose of subtle relaxation.
I don't know, just a theory.
I'm now using theanine 1 - 3 times a day, depending on the caffeine load and other factors.
I don't know if theanine alone is what the OP actually needs for SA but it is one fairly cheap supplement that is a step in the right direction.
Theanine has more of a physiological effect than an emotional one, but those areas have subtle inter-related factors. Sound body, sound mind kind of thing.

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
