I have been following WallStreetPlayboys for a while (I want to be rich by 35) - but I'm getting a bit depressed reading it all.
Their advice is aimed mainly at young 20 years olds (I am 26), and I feel like I have missed my chance to really make it in life. Their advice to someone my age, who has no finance experience, is to get an MBA (which I can't afford). I have recently graduated with an (almost) useless masters degree, and am currently living with my parents, with no idea what to do next. I would go into sales, but my social confidence isn't nearly what it should be for a role like that. I feel like I'm really losing perspective and don't know what to do. Any advice? |

I don't think those guys know what the hell they're talking about. There's no proof they even make money.
Don't let some anonymous dickheads on the internet tell you you need to get an MBA to get rich. That's insane. Do you have any idea how many people have gotten rich in ~5 years without a fucking degree? My advice is to stop thinking about it and start focusing on making money. I'm not even really clear on what advice you're asking for. Thanks for everything you guys. It's time for me to move on to bigger things!
So long, and thanks for all the fish! |

You answered your own question.
Sounds like you need to go in to sales. Developing social confidence is exactly why I went into sales. I didnt even care about the money. |

Thanks for the reply. Problem is, I don't know if I'm made for sales. I have a 1 month temporary job at Marks & Spencer as a Sales Assistant (my first ever sales role) which starts next week until the end of Christmas. So I'll see how that goes. Do you have any general advice surrounding sales? (I am extremely introverted) |

Thanks. Their advice is to avoid an MBA at all costs. But for someone like me - it's my only option if I don't go into sales. I think I'm just looking for advice on career choices. Also looking for some perspective. |

Dude, we don't know anything about you. Where are you from, what degree do you hold etc. we can't give you any advice since your first post is more about venting than seeking advice. When asking for advice, be concise and look for actionable advice!
As far as WSP, they are just writing about the "ideal" path, with no hickups on the way. There's no such thing as clear path. there's ups and downs and progress is not linear like they make it to be. More often than not, you put in the work for a while with no signs to show for it, then Boom, all of a sudden it seems like the stars are aligned in your favor. 22-2018

That kind of sales is fine if you wanna train yourself to be more extroverted or whatever, but it won’t make you real money or build an actual sales career.
If you want a place to start: Google SAAS sales jobs (stands for software as a service). There are tons of startup companies popping everywhere, and they need junior sales people to burn. Sometimes they use the acronym “SDR” for their lowest tier of salespeople. Stands for sales development representative. That’s another thing you should google. These jobs pay shit annually, usually 35k-50k base, and there’s sometimes a commission package included. They also SUCK BALLS in general, cuz start up culture can be very cult like. But it doesn’t need to be a dream job, it gets you in the game. After you get a job at one of these places—a real company—throw your ass on LinkedIn with a good profile pic. Say you’re working in Saas sales, and recruiters will hit you up for jobs. You can start building a career and be making at least a 6 figure base salary within a few years. You aren’t limited to start ups either, those are just the easiest places to get your foot in the door. “Saas” can apply to a company as big as Google. This shit isn’t hard, but don’t confuse retail sales/selling cars/going door to door with an actual office sales career that you can grow. Those other jobs can teach great lessons—they are by far the most hardcore type of sales—but no actual company is going to really give a shit about those experiences unless you’re just starting out. As in, don’t be a car salesman for 8 years and apply for a Senior Account Executive at Amazon and expect them to care or think it’s applicable. You have to do it the right way. This is a lot to read, and my last piece of advice is this: while you begin an actual sales career, start an online business. As others have said. Do both at the same time. Fuck an MBA. |

Island rum is correct. I've moved from 37k debt collection into 6 figure sales. Your career only begins at 6 figures, because that's when you unlock big projects worth 7 figures of ACV/ARR. Once you start selling those, you'll be making mega bank on commission.
After that, get into consulting, offshore your company, then pay 5% tax. I'm currently at the low - mid 100k annual income mark, looking to transition into low 200s when I move to Sydney. On the quest for financial freedom!

Wow. Great advice. Thanks. What exactly does an office sales job involve? And do you have any advice on quickly building communication skills and confidence? I always assumed that the big paying sales jobs were similar to selling cars - but instead of selling cars, you're selling high priced items to major businesses. I'm hoping my month at M&S is enough to help me develop confidence and good communication skills. In the meantime, I'll look for SAAS jobs (I'm in the UK though, so they might be called something different here). And ETA, I have a Neuroscience masters degree, and a Psychology undergraduate degree. I live in the UK. I could easily get a Research Assistant role ($39,000 per year) - but it's not a career path unless I plan on doing a PhD. |

Thanks for the advice. Are you running your own consulting company? |

You are literally on the phone reaching out to companies, trying to get them to buy whatever it is you’re selling. Do NOT confuse this for telemarketing job. It is not the same. And yes, of course Saas sales is a thing in the UK. It’s a thing everywhere. It is like any other sales job. Except you’re in an office,it’s 9-5, you get paid an actual salary, you have career trajectory, you’re in the corporate world. I just found this after taking 2 seconds to google it: www.indexventures.com/startup-jobs/silve...king-based-in-london There’s no reason not to apply to something like this. Be resourceful dude

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
