Anyone else meditate here. I've been Meditating for 30 minutes for about 3 weeks and I've noticed I'm getting better at it and have gained some of it's benefits though they might be due to the various other things I'm doing.
Has anyone else here been meditating consistently for a couple years? If so, do you feel it has significantly improved your life? I've been reading a couple of meditation forums where people claim that they've gained some insights about life that seem interesting e.g impermanence, suffering and realising that there is no "self".
Ever since losing my religion at age 15 I've felt a lack of spirituality in my life.
Some of the benefits of meditation seem to be supported by science e.g helping with concentration, anxiety, depression and stress reduction.
Or are the spiritual insights related with meditation similar to religion?
I went for a year straight. Did 20 mins - 1 hr daily. Lost discipline a couple years back due to over extending myself. I can vouch that it had amazing benefits to my sense of self, confidence, focus and emotional well being
I'm on day 10 on the Headspace app. Can't say I feel different day to day but I feel very relaxed right after finishing a session. I do it upon waking up and right before dates. Definitely something I want to keep doing though.
I am doing almost 1 hour daily. Want to shoot for 1'30hrs - 2hrs.
I notice that when I meditate I get less affected by rejection. I am usually more happy in general, more calm, less fight-fly mode. My social anxiety has diminished in more than 70%. Also I add some death meditation sometimes, which is a great antidote for being lazy and procrastinating. We all know the feeling of "Damn, I need and want to approach but not today, maybe tommorrow!" and the story goes on.
Also, I am following the guide-book called The Mind Illuminated by Culadasa.
Meditation is one of the few legitimately useful things I learned from PUA
I have been at it for about 5 years
I'd say about 3-4 of those years I've been doing it very consistently, usually 20 minutes a day when I wake up
I'm not in it for the spirituality gains or trying to become the next Buddha
But I will say that it significantly lessens my anxiety. I feel a little antsy or on edge if I don't meditate
That being said, it's not magic or anything. I wouldn't really expect anything crazy but YMMV
edit: there is science showing it actually changes your brain to make you happier. I do notice myself smiling randomly at times and I have had crazy experiences through meditation when I tried to be "good" at it like out of body experiences, smiling for like an hour straight because I felt so good, etc. However, I'm not sure how much of the being a bit happier and stuff is from meditation vs. just having a cooler life
For example, you could meditate all you want, but it's not magically gonna cure AA or get you laid (source: personal experience)
Former 21 year old virgin
2013: 1 lay
2014: 0 lays
2015: 7 lays
2016: 38 lays
Meditated for 30mins to 1 hr nightly for about 2 years straight in my early 20s. I've honestly been wanting to get back into the habit but apparently I don't want it enough at the moment to put aside the time for it, I definitely recommend it though as it was absolutely a positive experience for me during the time I took it seriously.

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
Kratom is next!
