Hi fellow GLL member,
I have recently become a victim of online slander/defamation on thedirty.com. The author (I have a good idea who it is, some girl I stopped talking to on tinder) claims that I have given out chlamydia to people (when I have never had a STD in my life) and goes on to say that I cheated on my ex girlfriend of many years (which I did not). I am going through a big career change in my life and represent the local fire department in my community and this could have a tremendous effect on future employment opportunities if this doesn't get dealt with asap. Also, I am seeing a new girl and if she sees this I guarantee that the relationship will be over just from this chick planting a false seed in her head. I am prepared to spend thousands on lawyers if need be to remove this false information of some angry girl trying to sabotage my career. The author also mentions the fire department that I am with and as a public service member this could ruin my shot at becoming a full time member (my dream since I was a kid) if this gets out. I have a doctors appointment scheduled this week to prove medical records that I do not carry any STD's and I am prepared to meet with a lawyer this week. I am currently living in Canada. I need this post removed and need legal advice from people regarding this asap. Thank you Chris/GLL Members Please help a brother out. |

Google a "Libel and Defamation" lawyer ASAP.
Libel is written word. Please no Private Messages. Post thread on with the word "Chris" or "GLL" in it if you absolutely need to get my input. Thank you for your understanding.

Send the negative test results to the owner of the dirty, you should be fine bro. In the meantime, yes go consult with a lawyer. I think lawyerratings.com should give you a good idea on whos good in your area.

Doing this right now. I can't even believe I am involved/linked to this ridiculous website. Anyway I am doing anything I possibly can to remove this article. I will update this as it unfolds. Also any other information will help.

Just an FYI to the OP and everyone who might get into this situation in the future, libel and defamation lawsuits do not usually workout in most cases. Before you go spending money on a lawyer, just remember what you're getting yourself into and the likelihood of such a case succeeding. In your situation, it may take months for the lawsuit to reach court and even then, I doubt it will be worth the investment since the reality is that it might not work out.
Here is my advice, hire a company like reputation.com or build an online presence that can push that down from the first page of google. Having a big social media presence, your own website, and other SEO tricks can do you a lot of justice in that regard as opposed to hiring a lawyer, there are consulting companies (reputation.com for example) that specialize in this.

Generally the online platform (GLL forum - for example) is not legally liable. However individual, posters (such as me) can be legally liable for libel.
Consult with an attorney ASAP. If you could sent a threatening letter from an Attorney to this girl, then you could probably scare her into taking it down. ("Cease and desist" letter). Lawsuits cost thousands to defend against. Even in lawsuits that have little chance of winning, the threat is enough to get your way. Consult an attorney immediately and get on this. I've worked for the nation's 2nd largest prosecutors office. Age: 21

I wonder, does rumor spreading online really do that much to damage a career? I mean OP is not convicted of anything and this site (the dirty) does not sound credible to me at all after looking through it. I would think that the only bad things online that employers would be weary of are arrest records, OP being convicted for some crazy shit, or OP being in some very questionable photos (partying and getting wasted).
Then again, I may be putting a lot more faith into employers and human resources than I should. |

Thank you for the advice guys, I have just emailed a seemingly reputable lawyer in my city that deals with Libel and Defamation.
@Chris Cudi - I do not believe that she has the power to take down the article. I believe once it is submitted it is in the power of the owner of the website (Nik Richie) to decide if the article is taken down or not since he cannot guarantee that it is the original author requesting the removal. If any of you guys could read the Legal FAQ on the website to see where I am coming from. I plan on sending in my result for false STD's accusations to get that part taken down. However this may on get that part of the article taken down and not the entire thing. This is pissing me off so much its all I can think about is this ruining my reputation/career all because of false information from some angry chick. Im honestly in disbelief. My anxiety is through the roof because I am so close to landing my dream job and this could honestly end it. I also will have a year of probation to go through aswell. I also cannot let this girl that I am seeing find this article. This is truly a worst nightmare. -FP |

Hi guys,
So over that past few days I have contacted lawyers here in Canada. They explained to me it is extremely hard to get posts off thedirty.com and the way to do it is go after the person with ip address and things of that nature. One lawyer here referred me to a lawyer in Arizona who then told me there is "reputation management companies" that have been known to remove posts from websites like thedirty.com. Apparently the company to do this is (onlinedefamationdefenders.com) and I have been quoted $1950 USD for complete removal. It seems legit and will not charge my card until the post is completely removed. I bet anything that thedirty.com and this company are linked and they are both making money off me. I am seriously considering paying the $1950 USD but I wanted to hear your guys opinion on the matter first. Let me know what you think. -FP |

Have you contact 'the dirty' yourself?
It depends if you have the $ to spend. Please no Private Messages. Post thread on with the word "Chris" or "GLL" in it if you absolutely need to get my input. Thank you for your understanding.

@Chris
I have contacted them sending them a removal request. Basically they just send automated email back saying they barley check this email and if you need to talk to Nik (the owner of the site) then download this app and pay money to talk to him. It costs like 30 dollars to text him once... I might just have to pay the money. |

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
