does anyone else have a problem with this? It sounds stupid but its actually sort of a problem for me and has been for years. When i go cold turkey and dont use the internet for a week or more at a time I get so much stuff done and have way less social anxiety. But I always end up coming back and it turns into a vicious cycle where im just comfortable talking to my internet " friends " and mindlessly surfing the web when i could be out doing approaches or learning the piano.. Does anyone else have this problem?
I can totally relate. I find the main culprit of it is simply not being occupied enough and being lazy.. There's nothing wrong with going on the internet in your downtime but yeah, when it's your only go-to, I find that it's a sign for me personally that I need some other shit going for me in my life... Hobbies, some work, interests, friend stuff, anything. We need to be creating stuff, doing stuff, moving forward, or working at something. Can't piss our idle time on here too often.
Strongly considering unplugging my internet this Christmas break (Don't need to be looking at school stuff once exams are done so the net serves no functional purpose to me) so I can actually get some shit done.
Edit: at times when I am busy with hobbies and get laid or meet girls, I find I barely go on the internet... So yeah, it's really just filling the time voids in our lives. Let's work to fix it!
Yes. Internet is way addicting for me. It is so easy to just sit and watch random youtube videos, read posts, google search, message people on facebook.
The only cure for me I found was not having internet in my apartment. When I was in Thailand, I didn't have any internet in my room on purpose.
I was more focused, meditated more, and never could look at porn.
Right now I have internet, and find that I watch one too many Kobe Bryant videos in the day (I'm an entrepreneur as well, so internet distraction destroys me).
My next place I am going to try and find somewhere that doesn't come with internet built in, just so at least I HAVE to leave the apartment if I want to use it. And I'll be in public, so harder to do weird shit on the internet.
- I Overcame 11 Years Of Depression and Help Others Do The Same Without Worrying About "Thinking Positive" Or Taking High Doses Of Antidepressants
i agree with you TJ and i actually removed internet from my home over a month ago. It can get extremely boring / lonely at times but its been a very positive change so far. Also i sold my video games which was even harder. Sacrifices must be made
I probably would be described as having this. Honestly, if I had it my way then I wouldn't be involved in the internet, but my job takes me there once and awhile.
A lot of it is to do with not having parts of my life handled. I am on the forum right now because I am super edgy about my sex life lately and having a bad day (of sorts).
Thinking that over, I would say that a major thing, for me at least, is the internet being a place we turn to when things aren't going right for us.
Imagining that my sex life was handled, that I only needed to come on once every so often for work and I was more focused on what needs to be done then I would say that my internet usage would drop way down. (I use it about 30 minutes a day or less on average; on a good day 0 hours.)
What about you guys? If you had your life sorted, sex, money, body, social, would you be on the internet or on this forum at all?
Yeah ill have some internet for the next few hours until I pass out tonight then after that i will be online rarely for awhile. ( borrowing best friends tablet at the moment ). The bottom line is im taking way more ACTION when I dont have a way to get online in my house daily. For years I was way too comfortable going into webchats like stickam or tinychat and getting drunk or high with people I never met. For anyone who doesnt have much if any social / sex life. Be honest with your self how much time you spend online. Personally I have a long history with Drugs and alcohol but the internet continues to be main way of " escaping " in many ways.

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
