I realized something that had been nagging at me for quite some time. If you're a former simple carbohydrate addict: donuts, candy, processed foods, cookies, ice cream etc. it harder to resist these foods when you're depressed or are in an otherwise foul mood. I guess that's why their called comfort foods. Today I binge ate a bunch of sugar because i was feeling angry, bitter, and tired. Unfortunately, one of my goals is to get leaner, so whenever i give in to these cravings I end up setting my goal back. The problem is, not only do i have a hard time resisting sweets and processed foods, but if I'm in a bad mood, which is almost daily for me, I end up finding those types of foods irresistible, thus making me give in, setting my goals back, and then feeling angry and guilty that I wasn't strong enough to resist after the fact. It's crazy. Whenever I eat these foods, I feel like I'm possessed and have no self control. Same thing with the bad moods. Even when I'm like, WTF?, in my head, the mood doesn't go away.
How do you guys manage sugar/fast food/comfort food cravings? And, how do you manage your depressed/angry/unproductive moods so that you don't jeopardize your goals whenever these moods decide to possess your mind? |

If you eat a nice clean diet you should never be too hungry so the cravings will be less. I used to eat for comfort but haven't really done that in a long time and I find that the need to do so goes away with time as with any other addiction.

Your brain is a fucking conniving bastard. Not trying to sound all spiritual here, but if you ever stay super present and listen to the thoughts that actually go through your head when you have cravings, you'll understand. "Brain: You've been really good this week, one pack of chips is actually GOOD for a re-feed!" / "Brain: You haven't been laid in awhile, but remember reading that not 'releasing' is harmful to your reproductive system? you don't want to have limp dick do you?!" / "Brain: It's the weekend, I'll easily be able to catch up on work later!" Literally EVERYONE on this board knows that: being a slob, not working out, watching Netflix/YouTube all day, not achieving anything in life, sleeping all day, jacking off, binge eating food MAKES YOU DEPRESSED; but we still do it; WHY? Because at that exact time our brain convinces us that it is the exact thing that will make us happy. It literally LIES to us - it doesn't give a flying fuck about the consequences - FUCK THAT GUY! Let's get BASIC AS FUCK here. Write a list of things that you KNOW makes you depressed; legit depressed. You just wrote a heap: donuts, candy, cookies, ice cream, add in other things too: jacking off, not staying productive, not paying bills, not having money, buying shit you don't need, getting wasted and being hung over etc. Write them in BIG LETTERS and post it on your wall - take a photo of it and have it as your phone/laptop/desktop background. THESE THINGS MAKE ME DEPRESSED. DON'T DO THESE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!:
PROMISE yourself; Every time you do anything, you HAVE to refer to that list. Hey, you can still CHOOSE to do the thing that makes you depressed *eat a donut", but at least then you'll KNOW that YOU chose to do that thing and it was stupid as fuck. You're here on this forum, so I know you're not stupid as fuck, it just sometimes takes some time to fix yourself; but do it enough and you'll sort that shit out. DO THIS. It WILL work.

I don’t find it difficult at all.
Stop buying shitty food. My cupboards and fridge are stacked with nutritious food only, zero temptations. It’s a very uncomplicated process. However, you probably don’t have a drinking problem like I do, so perhaps we all have different vices. Anyway, for me, I just see zero point to eating jumk food. You’ve been brainwashed into thinking it’s “good.” It isn’t, its not even food. Its fucking high fructose corn syrup garbage. |

@ClamDigger That list thing answer is quite GOOD I must say. Being conscious/aware about your decisions and actions in life makes a big difference, instead of going in autopilot mode runned by your fears and desires for comfort.

@ClamDigger My life has been on point these past months but you are a real good advisor my man. Everytime I fall on one of your posts it is full of good stuff.
Good member of this community. OP I believe that during extreme thoughts (depression, etc.) you gotta kick yourself harder to realize how lucky you are. When i suffered from Binge Eating Disorder (it's just your brain playing you), I decided to do a Protein Modified Fasting diet or whatever. And I added 2-3 drinks for whén I'd go out. All this restriction got me to realize how valuable I am to "choose" what I put in my body. Lay Count before GLL (September 2015): 1

@Dude75:
Funny that you mention that. The way I stopped my binge eatings were also through strict PSMF diets. All in or stay at home is my approach.

I didn't think the "Get Hung" guide would have girls eyeing my bulge. It did.
I didn't think that your exercise and diet advice would have girls checking me out. It did.
I DEFINITELY didn't think that your hair-loss prevention would fix my hairline. Not in a billion years. It mother fucking did. You saved me a crazy amount of time, a ton of money, unnecessary pain, and destroyed my #1 source of anxiety. DESTROYED IT.
