The instruction booklet and the video guides say to close the grey pip ono top of the unit itself. Except the pip which is on the top of my unit can't be moved. It is a single solid piece that is locked in place.
There is a valve with a pip that can be locked, but it is on the hand pump itself. Nothing I've seen mentions this.
It looks like valve that is on the hand pump should be on the main unit and vice versa.
The first picture to me looks like its in the locked position already. Try moving it to the middle or even the other side opposite of where it is now. It does look like it should be on the actual hydromax itself. I'll take some photos of mine tomorrow and post them up for you.
I got a new hydromax extreme as well and I found it will only click to one direction and stay there. If I try the opposite direction it just moves back to the middle. Just remember that the middle is were you need it to let water out when you pump. if it is in the locked position it wont let water out.
Also is the twist section (clear bit at the top where the water comes out) in the locked position or unlocked? the way to tell is hold the bellows against your body and twist it to the left. That is locked. Then try turning it to the right that is unlocked. try both positions and see if you can unlock the top pip.
Also could you put up a picture of both pips from a side view. both of the pictures you shared are kinda from a top down view and it can be hard to tell properly. make sure your taking a picture of the widest parts of the pips not the thinnest part.
The first picture is in the locked position, however that is on the hand pump itself not the main unit.
Every guide and manual says you should be able to move the pip on the main unit, however this is not possible on mine. I can twist it lock and unlock it, however this has no effect on holding water in.
I can move the pip on the valve that is located on the hand pump.
To me it looks like the unit has the wrong valve installed on it, what's on the hand pump should be on the main unit.
It's not clear from the photo, because my camera can't show it, but the 2nd photo is the main unit, and it's valve has no way to move. Because the grey pip is held in place on all 4 sides by the clear plastic.
